Soundscapes across cityscapes:
relationships among biodiversity, sound, and human health and wellbeing in urban green infrastructure
Project background:
Urban green spaces are critical for both biodiversity and human well-being. Single sounds and the mix of sounds composing the urban soundscape can be indicators of biodiversity and environmental quality. Also, they have a profound direct impact on human health and wellbeing. Still, the relationship between environmental qualities such as green and grey structures, biodiversity and the resulting soundscape is so far understudied. Moreover, how soundscapes are perceived by people and this way affect the restorative power of urban green spaces is just as understudied. The aim of the CitySoundscapes project is to identify how the characteristics of urban soundscapes relate to the structural complexity of urban green spaces, sound-based biodiversity in urban green spaces and human wellbeing. We combine methods from urban ecology, environmental psychology, acoustics research and urban planning to provide information for the planning and management of urban green spaces in the city of Munich and beyond. By engaging citizens and collaborating with stakeholders, we aim to support cities in leveraging synergies between biodiversity and health promotion.
We are offering one Scientific Project Coordinator position to a highly motivated individual based in Munich/Freising. This multifaceted position offers an opportunity to make a significant impact by ensuring efficient communication and administration among project partners from different research disciplines and sectors throughout the CitySoundscapes project lifecycle.
Job description:
We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a Scientific Project Coordinator for the CitySoundscapes project. In this role, you will be responsible for facilitating seamless communication channels between project partners and our funding organizations (BMBF / FEdA). Additionally, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating internal communications within the consortium, which includes preparing and moderating team meetings to ensure collaboration for constant integration of evidence and tracking of progress. Moreover, ensuring FAIR data management throughout the whole project life cycle is part of your responsibilities.As a Scientific Coordinator, you will also be tasked with managing external communications with various stakeholders, including practitioners, policymakers, decision-makers, associations, media outlets, and the public. Your role will be instrumental in conveying project outcomes and engaging with diverse audiences, contributing to effective science communication. Furthermore, you will provide support in handling financial and administrative tasks within the project, such as preparing interim reports.
The candidate we are looking for ideally has:
• Enthusiasm for and competence in science communication and management across different disciplines
• Interest in research activities at the interface of human health, biodiversity, nature and the build environment
• Proactivity, creativity and excellent communication skills
• Organized and structured working style
• Good knowledge of project management and tools (e.g. Trello, Microsoft 365)
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team
Job requirements:
• Diploma or master’s degree in related field
• Skills in field and lab work
• Very good knowledge of English and German
• Experiences with Research Data Management is an asset
• Pronounced scientific and writing skills are a benefit, particularly in science communication
