Research Associate (m/f/d)

(Ph.D. student or post-doc for Habilitation)

 

with remuneration according to pay group 13 TV-L on a fixed-term basis. The position is initially limited to 1 + 3 years in the case of a doctorate, and up to 6 years in the case of a post-doc position. The scope of the position is 100 per cent of the regular weekly working hours of a full-time employee.

 

The Chair of Economic Geography stands for a theoretically grounded research and teaching agenda that critically questions the ideas, paths, possibilities, limits and practices of sustainable regional development in the context of global challenges such as increasing socio-spatial inequality, the looming climate crisis and the progressive marketisation and technologisation of social, economic and ecological areas.  A more recent focus of the Chair is also on critical geovisualisation and critical statistics.

 

Your areas of responsibility:

  • Your tasks include academic services in research and teaching.
  • In particular, you should contribute to the further development of quantitative methodological training in Geography and especially Human Geography.
  • This includes the development of innovative teaching formats in the field of statistics and spatial data science in the BSc. geography and MSc. Urban and Regional Research (in the case of a post-doc position).
  • At the same time, you should build bridges to a critically reflective and socio-theoretically informed approach to statistics, big data and methods of Spatial Data Science.
  • They are also active in teaching in the field of general economic geography.
  • You should develop your own research profile in a field close to the specialisations of the Chair.

 

The position is limited in time in accordance with the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz) and serves to promote academic qualification (doctorate, post-doc or habilitation). The duration of the employment relationship is based on the legal and personal requirements. In all other respects, the recruitment requirements according to the Bavarian University Personnel Act apply.

 

Your profile:

  • You have an excellent Master’s degree in Human Geography with a specialisation in economic geography or related disciplines (e.g. Economic Sociology).
  • For the post-doc arrangement: You have a doctorate in Human Geography or a related discipline.
  • You should have a particular interest in critical, heterodox perspectives on the changing geographies of economies, as well as in the further development of Economic Geography methods training (e.g. critical statistics, quantitative surveys, Critical Data Science).
  • Skills in teaching quantitative methods (including open source software such as „R“).
