Call for Papers: 16th Annual Meeting of the Arbeitskreis Südasien (AKSA)

The 16th Annual Meeting of the Arbeitskreis Südasien (South Asia Working Group) will take place on February 18th and 19th  2027 at the Department of Geography, University of Bonn.

The annual meeting provides a platform for geographers and scholars from neighbouring disciplines to engage in dialogue on current research, fieldwork, and theoretical or methodological innovations concerning South Asia. The meeting aims to foster both intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary exchange, reflecting the complexity and diversity of developments and challenges across the region.

We welcome paper contributions from Physical and Human Geography, as well as from neighbouring disciplines. Scholars, practitioners, and educators working on South Asia are especially encouraged to participate. We particularly invite early-career researchers to present work that has, for example, emerged from Master’s theses.

Language:
The meeting’s lingua franca is English, but presentations in German are also welcome.

Abstract Submission:
Please submit abstracts with a maximum of 300 words to Anna Hofmann (anna.hofmann-1@geogr.uni-giessen.de) by December 15th, 2026.

Fees:
40 EUR (regular), 20 EUR for students (incl. PhD students)

Conference Proceedings:
Extended abstracts may be considered for publication in the conference proceedings. Past volumes of the series are accessible here: https://hasp.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/catalog/series/gsa.
